Venues and Themes

Michael and I are thrilled to start looking at venues and exploring wedding themes!

Together, we have decided that we want our wedding to be a combination of a Latin / Spanish style with a modern twist. Both of these elements really embody our personalities and we're ready to do something fun and different!

We have a few upcoming appointments scheduled with potential venues, including Hotel Maya in Long Beach (OUR personal FAVORITE!), Casa Romantica in San Clemente, and Tortilla Flats in Mission Viejo.  We're also really interested in checking out El Adobe in San Juan Capistrano.

I have to send a HUGE thank you to my wonderful friend Kristy for sending me the most amazing list of wedding venues in Southern California. From Long Beach to San Diego, she covered them all! It was a huge help and without her list I wouldn't have known where to begin!

Although I consider myself somewhat of a wedding connoisseur, selecting a venue is all so new to me! If any of you have some suggestions for locations that fit what we are looking for, we greatly appreciate your help!

XOXO

Family Dinner

On Saturday night, Carolyn, Michael's mom, was kind enough to invite my family down for a celebration dinner. My mom, dad, sister, niece and papa made the long drive to Mission Viejo where we enjoyed appetizers, dinner, dessert, and a champagne toast with Michael's dad, step-mother, step-father, grandparents, and aunts and uncles. It was a really nice evening and it was refreshing to see how well the families got along with one another.  It was the first of what I'm sure will be many family gatherings throughout the years and it was a very special day for Michael and I.

Although no serious plans were discussed over dinner, Michael and I still have an upcoming engagement party in the works and are planning on our wedding in late June next year.

Our First Engagement Party

Thanks to our wonderful friends, Angela and Bud Smith, Michael and I had our first engagement party on Friday, April 23rd! It was such a special night for the two of us. After begin on Cloud 9 for days and having the engagement feel so surreal, the party is what put it all in perspective.  Once we arrived to our friends congratulating us the engagement felt so official!

Angela went out of her way to make the party a hit! I couldn't believe all of the little details she put together in such a short timeframe - it was amazing! From an adorable congratulations banner and personalized tags on the champagne glasses to a huge spread of yummy appetizers and loads of champage, she did it all! It really made us feel so loved and special. I can't thank her enough for throwing such a wonderful little event.

Check out some of her pictures from the night:

THANK YOU ANGELA!!!

Michael and I will be having an official engagemet party soon! Stay tuned for details!

How He Proposed

Sweet, simple, and extremely romantic. These three short words perfectly describe Michael's proposal.

On April 19th, Michael and I were preparing to celebrate our one year anniversary the very next day.  We spent the evening at Lauren and Jarrod's house (our very dear friends), and were home around 10:30.  After hitting the sack, we were both in and out of sleep for the better part of the next hour.  Finally, midnight rolled around and Michael sweetly said to me, "Happy Anniversary."  I said it back and thought to myself, Wow! How sweet of him to actually think to say it at midnight.  (Sometimes I need to give men more credit than I do!). In all honesty, I thought that was the best the night was going to get and I closed my eyes again and looked forward to our anniversary dinner the next night.

About five minutes later, Michael got up. I heard the bathroom light turn on and didn't think anything of it. Then, I heard him rummaging through the hallway closets. Again, I didn't think too hard about what he was up to and closed my eyes yet again.  A few minutes later a sweet, yet nervous, voice came from the kitchen... "Erin, can you come in here please?"  I was so frustrated that he wanted me to get out of bed that in response I said, "I'm sleeping. What do you want?"  Little did I know.  He asked again and I again replied, "What do you need me for in the kitchen right now?"  Finally, he said, "PLEASE!!". So, I stumbled out of bed, half asleep, without my glasses, to see what was up with him.  As soon as I turned into the kitchen, there was Michael, down on one knee! I was in complete shock. So much so that when he asked, "Will you marry me?", I didn't even answer the question! Of course I calmed down a bit and said "Yes."

I was so ecstatic and overwhelmed I didn't sleep a wink that night! I couldn't help but want to tell the entire world! But, it was late and most of my family and friends found out in the morning! It was the best day of my life and I will never forget how thoughtful and sweet it was. I never saw it coming and had it not been so simple, in the middle of our kitchen at midnight, I probably would have anticipated it. He did a wonderful job at making me the happiest girl in the world!

And, the ring! It's absolutely gorgeous! I stared at it all night long (with help from the light on my phone!) He did such an amazing job at picking it out; I'm in love with it!!!
